DrinksAdvisor is an independent editorial site about vineyard stays and wine experiences. This page explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. We have tried to write it in plain English rather than legal boilerplate.
Who is responsible for your information
DrinksAdvisor is operated by Alex Abate, based in Spain. You can reach us at privacy@drinksadvisor.com.
Because we are established in the European Union, we act as the data controller under the General Data Protection Regulation, wherever in the world you happen to be reading from.
What we collect
If you subscribe to our newsletter
We collect your email address, the date you subscribed, and a record that you confirmed the subscription. That is all. We do not ask for your name, your location, or your travel plans, and we do not try to work them out.
When you simply visit the site
Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs: your IP address, browser type, the page you requested and the time you requested it. These are produced automatically by any web server and we use them only to keep the site running and to investigate attacks.
What we do not collect
We do not run analytics. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. We do not build reader profiles, and we do not sell, rent or trade personal information with anyone. If any of this changes, this page changes first.
Cookies
The site sets no analytics and no advertising cookies. Strictly necessary cookies may be set by our security plugin, and by WordPress itself if you sign in as an author. If we add analytics in future, we will ask for your consent before setting any non-essential cookie.
Why we are allowed to process it
- Newsletter — your consent, given when you tick the box and confirm the email we send you. You can withdraw it at any time, and every email carries an unsubscribe link.
- Server and security logs — our legitimate interest in keeping the site available and protected from attack.
Who else sees your information
- MailerLite — sends our newsletter and stores the subscriber list.
- Hostinger — hosts the site and produces the server logs.
Both act as processors on our instructions and are bound by contract. We do not share your information with advertisers or with the estates we write about.
When you click an affiliate link and leave DrinksAdvisor, the destination site collects information under its own privacy policy, not ours. Our Affiliate Disclosure explains how those links work.
How long we keep it
Newsletter data: until you unsubscribe, plus a short period afterwards so that we can honour the unsubscribe and prove we did. Server logs: for as long as our host retains them, typically a few weeks.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict what we do with it, or send it to another service. You can object to processing, and you can withdraw your consent to the newsletter at any moment.
Email us and we will answer within one month. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Spanish supervisory authority, the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (aepd.es), or to the authority in your own country.
If you are in the United States
We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by California law, and we do not process it for cross-context behavioural advertising. The rights described above are available to you in the same way as to readers in Europe: write to us and we will act on the request.
Age
This site is about alcohol and is intended for adults — 21 and over in the United States, 18 and over in the European Union. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
The date at the top of this page tells you when it last changed. If we make a change that materially affects newsletter subscribers, we will say so by email rather than quietly editing the page.
